Pouch Cell Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy under Active Pressure and Temperature Control

Three factors that have a huge impact on the impedance of a pouch cell are temperature, pressure and state-of-charge (SOC), as can be seen to the left. In order to get reliable measurements of cell resistance, it’s important to accurately control these parameters.

While controlling the SOC is the job of the battery cycler, the CompreDrive can actively control the pressure and temperature applied to a pouch cell mounted in the CompreCell Pouch.

For a full analysis of the impedance spectra recorded for this commercial lithium-ion pouch cell battery, including evaluating the activation energy of the charge transfer reaction, check out the application note below. For more information about the cycling behavior and in situ thickness monitoring, a separate application note is available.
