Detailed Description

The Distance Add-on is used to allow the most precise monitoring of thickness changes of pouch cells.

It is attached directly to the ground solid metal plates of the CompreCell Pouch cell holders. The cell holders offer metric M5 female threads at the plates, where the sensor mount and mirror mount are attached. By doing so, only minimal influences of the mainframe are included in the signal and only the displacement of the pouch itself is measured.

To reach highest precision, an optical confocal sensor is used. It offers a resolution of 40 nm and a full-range linearity of 1 µm. Hence, also single-layer solid-state cells can be monitored during cycling. In contrast to mechanical displacement sensors, the optical ones are usually much less prone to malfunctions.

The system includes the optical sensor and the controller with ethernet connection. It is fully integrated into the CompreDrive hard- and software. We provide a special software that allows the optimal alignment of the sensor and the transfer of raw and tare data (initial thickness of the bag cell can be specified).

The total measuring range of 2 mm of the sensor also allows the investigation of commercial multilayer Li-Ion pouches.
