Data and results you can trust

Electrochemical service measurements

You need to use electrochemical methods to test your materials or applications, but you either lack laboratory space or the necessary equipment?

Then we will be happy to carry out your service measurements for you. At rhd instruments, we have a well-equipped state-of-the-art lab with all the required tools and experienced electrochemists to provide you with high-quality and reliable data within short time.

Typical examples of our electrochemical testing services:

  • Determination of the conductivity of electrolytes as a function of temperature
  • MacMullin number determination for electrolyte-wetted separator foils
  • Determination of the tortuosity of anode/cathode materials
  • Stripping/plating experiments
  • Cyclic voltammetry to determine the HOMO-LUMO gap for OLED materials

Determination of the electrolyte conductivity

The conductivity is one essential parameter you need to know for your electrolyte. Irrespective if you are working with liquid, gel-like, polymeric, powder-like, or pellet-like samples – we can determine the (total) conductivity as a function of temperature for you by applying impedance spectroscopy and subsequent fitting of the data.

To provide you with a quote, please submit the following Information:

  • Which kind of sample do you have? Is it a liquid, polymeric, powder-like, or pellet-like sample?
  • What sample amount can you provide (in ml or mg)?
  • Is the sample sensitive towards air and humidity?
  • Do you want to have repeat measurements?
  • For which temperatures do you need to know the conductivity?
  • Do you want us to write a report?

Separator materials can be found in many different electrochemical applications. One crucial material parameter for an electrolyte-wetted separator is the MacMullin number. It tells you by which factor the conductivity of a wetted separator is reduced compared to the neat electrolyte.

Since years, we have been supporting customers from industry and academia by determining that parameter value for them. For doing so, we apply an elegant method based on impedance spectroscopy.

To provide you with a quote, please submit the following Information:

  • What material class is the separator material based on?
  • What is the thickness of the separator material?
  • What electrolyte should be used?
  • Will you provide us with the electrolyte or should we order it?
  • Do you want to have repeat measurements?
  • At which temperature should the measurements be performed? Hint: Typically, these experiments are performed at 20 °C or 25 °C.
  • Do you want us to write a report?

You have a very specific, challenging task to solve in order to get deeper insights into the material you are studying – and you need to apply electrochemical methods? We are happy to help you out if you have no experience with this method or if you lack the necessary equipment or lab space. Contact us and we will find out how we can help you.

The next steps would be:

  • Kick-off meeting to define the task and specify the requirements
  • Initial feedback by our team regarding feasibility
  • Follow-up meeting to clarify open questions
  • Final definition of the tasks related with the project and quoting
  • Service measurements and continuous reporting on the progress
  • Presentation of results

What our customers & partners say

I struggled quite a lot for some time to get meaningful MacMullin number values for our separator samples, because I had to take care of so many different applications and devices in our lab, and it was hard to focus on this particular method. However, I have never regretted reaching out to RHD. They showed me how to obtain reproducible and reliable data.

Application scientist | European paper-maker now also developing separator materials

It was fascinating to see how efficient our contact person at RHD performed all the measurements while always updating us on the progress. I really liked the way they handled the communication with us.

Junior project leader | Scandinavian-based company focusing on electrolytes for energy-storage applications

It was an unique experience to work with the guys from RHD. I was overwhelmed by the team’s commitment and motivation to solve the issues that I had faced when trying to carry out the experiments by myself.
