Detailed Description
The LVDT Distance Add-on is used to allow the most precise monitoring of thickness changes of pouch cells, for example to track cell breathing or plating and stripping processes in a solid-state cell.
It solves a major issue of pouch cell dilatometry: The measured battery cells are often not perfectly plane and parallel, also the positioning of the cells is not always exactly centered in the cell fixture. Out-of-axis sensors are susceptible to errors due to bending/flexing of the cell. By arranging 3 sensors in a triangle the setup performs a geometric correction and enables distance measurements with an accuracy of at least 0.5 µm.
The LVDT distance add-on is attached directly to the ground solid metal plates of the CompreCell Pouch cell holders. Thereby minimizing influences of the mainframe in the signal and making sure only the displacement of the pouch itself is measured.
The setup can be used in conjunction with the HC add-on to ensure controlled conditions.
The system includes an electronic unit and full software integration into CompreDriveControl (CDC). We provide a special software that allows for easy, optimal positioning of the sensors and the transfer of raw and tare data (initial thickness of the pouch cell can be specified).
The total measuring range of 10 mm of the sensors also allow the investigation pouches ranging from thin single-layer solid-state cells to very thick commercial multilayer Li-Ion pouches.
