CompreCell 12-DP

Test cell for studying solid-state batteries in 2- and 3-electrode configuration

Benefit from this highly reliable test cell for studying solid-state-batteries, compatible with CompreDrive and CompreFrame:

  • Designed for pressures of up to 663 MPa (12 mm piston)
  • Broad temperature range from -40 °C to 250 °C (upper limit depends on chosen sleeve material)
  • Ideal for layer-by-layer assembly of solid-state-batteries with different pressure steps in between
  • Enables the usage of a reference electrode
  • Airtight concept (helium-leakage tested) for testing moisture- and air-sensitive samples
  • Different sleeve materials available
  • Compatible with CompreDrive and CompreFrame

Typical applications

The CompreCell 12-DP is the ideal solution for the layer-by-layer assembly of solid-state batteries and allows for studying them in a 2- or 3-electrode configuration at different stack pressures and temperatures:

  • Cycling of solid-state batteries under active stack pressure and temperature control

  • Pressure- and temperature-dependent investigation of a solid-state electrolyte’s conductivity

  • Stripping-plating experiments under actively controlled stack pressure

Detailed Description

The next generation of solid-state battery test cells – the CompreCell 12 DP: The CompreCell 12 DP is a measuring cell designed for use with the CompreDrive or CompreFrame. It is airtight (helium-leakage tested over complete accessible temperature range) and can therefore be used to handle sensitive samples by filling the cell in a glovebox under inert gas atmosphere and then measuring it outside.

The CompreCell 12 DP is a measurement cell suitable for measuring multilayer stacks of solid samples, like all-solid-state batteries, under active pressure control. It is also suitable for powdered samples and allows e.g. pelletizing in-situ.

An intuitive design facilitates the layer-by-layer assembly of an all-solid-state battery starting from the separate component materials: Both hard metal plungers in the cell can move independently and therefore apply pressure to a stack at a fixed position in the inner sleeve. This allows for measuring sample stacks that are sensitive to vertical movement and minimizes the risk of cracking and short-circuits through the layers.

As sleeve material, AlOx, PEI, and PEEK are available. The fixed location of the sample also facilitates the use of a solid-state reference electrode for 3-electrode measurements. On demand, we could also provide a version for 6 mm diameter samples (CompreCell 6 DP). The CompreCell 6 DP can only be operated in 2-electrode configuration due to limited space.
